The Study
This work captures a vital part of the journey of self-discovery—the intentional act of learning and uncovering one’s heritage. It centers on the quiet power of a Black girl pausing to immerse herself in her community’s rich history: diving into banned books, cultural narratives, and hidden stories left out of traditional classrooms. The bold, layered colors reflect the vibrancy of reclaiming knowledge and creating an identity grounded in truth.
I was inspired to create a piece that reflected a journey I walk as I uncover more about the community that surrounds me here in Seattle. The more I dive into artistry, the more I research and reflect.
